Andreas Helling
ANDREAS HELLING (b. 1975) was admitted to the Turku Conservatory at the age of 6 to learn the instrument of his own choice, the cello. After four years with Matti Vuoristo his teacher during the next ten years was Timo Hanhinen, head of the cello department. In 1992 Andreas went to Sweden to study at the Royal Music Academy of Stockholm with Ola Karlsson. In 1993 he returned to Finland and having been admitted to the Sibelius Academy studied in turn with prof. Martti Rousi, Victoria Yagling and Raimo Sariola. In 2002 Andreas won the third prize in the Turku cello competition and finished his studies at the Sibelius Academy with the highest marks in the final cello examination.
Andreas Helling has taken part in master courses given by Mikhael Homitzer, Menahem Meir, David Geringas, Frans Helmerson, Alexander Baillie, Robert Cohen and Julius Berger.
He has performed as soloist with orchestra and given recitals of his own in Finland, Sweden, France, Italy, Russia,Moldavia, England and Austria and he is in great demand as a chamber musician. In String Trio Helling Andreas plays together with his father and brother.
At the present he is co-leader of the cello section of the Turku Philharmonic.
