Risto Rajakorpi
Risto Rajakorpi (born 1970) studied cello with Lauri Voipio, Pauli Heikkinen and Arto Noras at Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and from 1992 at the Robert-Schumann-Hochschule in Düsseldorf, Germany, with Johannes Goritzki. He ended his studies 1996 with ‚Konzertexamen’. After having been the principal cellist of the chamber orchestra Deutsche Kammerakademie, from 1997 on he has been the second principal cellist of the Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra in Germany.
As soloist Risto Rajakorpi has played with Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra, Düsseldorfer Ensemble and Accademia Filarmonica Trentina in Germany, Finland, Hungary and Italy. In Laplands Festival in Sweden he played together with Truls Mörk, Diemut Poppen and Vladimir Mendelssohn. As member of the Arcato Quartett he won the string quartett competition of the Robert-Schumann-Hochschule Düsseldorf.
Risto Rajakorpi is an active chamber musician, too, and has played lot of concerts from duo to nonett as member of Romberg Ensemble, Berio Ensemble and new music ensemble Opus PräSenS. By Windrose Festival 2001 he played solo cello and chamber music of Krzysztof Penderecki coached by the composer himself.
